{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

sometimes i just want to make chocolate dipped cheese ...

with so much of my thought being centered in the kitchen this time of year (who am i kidding, year-round), i thought this post from "the kitchn" was awesome.

progress update

check it out! some etsy treasuries that included my work (thank you!):

painting sticks in the basement is my new favorite thing to do:
this project was so freeing - neatness not required. only colors ideas. and i have none of the first, and an abundance of the second.
the desk floaters:
there's something about these pieces (unfinished and finished) that still hold something for me, and i'm trying to figure out what that is.

inspiration:
this is a desk floater also. i just can't resist looking at it.

sketchbook project:
my book for the sketchbook tour is due in january, and i'm on my way to finishing it this year. i'm trying different techniques in the book, trying to let it be whatever comes to mind, versus having it be a planned story. it reminds me of the sketchbooks i had to do as homework for high school art classes. not much about representation, and more about intuition- putting down whatever your mind is designing, without questioning. it's a good exercise. even if that looks like a 5 year old did it ... don't judge. it'll mean something someday. maybe.
an ink day:
there are so many directions. i know. and it doesn't have to all come together, but i always want it to, don't you? here's a block printing moment from last week.
my favorite (moment) is revealing what i've carved by rolling the ink over it. it's always kind of a surprise.
juxtaposition is my middle name.

what do you think?

sap hands

working on some new pieces, but they're going a little slower than usual. i'll show you soon.

i always wish i could hone in on one thing, and then work on it nice and slowly, enjoying each moment. but i'm always rushing around while working- getting every idea out that is running through my brain. it's exhausting! it's not always a bad thing, you just have to know how to let it be fast when it's fast, and slow when it's slow. it's always in there.

in other news we went and found ... "the gregoire family christmas tree". at tonry tree farm, the dozens of different types of trees are sprawled out across many fields. the vastness and variety of the farm made us so excited, as did the people in the parking lot who were tailgating with their friends + families. definitely an idea to snag. we felt like little kids. we talked about picking out trees with our dads and siblings, decorating them with our moms. and lots of chevy chase quotes. jay even shouted one to a fellow man-foregoing-sled-to-carry-tree-on-shoulders. we thought about our non-existent little kids, and how this is a tradition that they may hate us for when they're teenagers, a tradition that we just started together this weekend, but hopefully someday when they come back around to having real thoughts about life and forgive us for being cheesy and lame, they remember that this is awesome.

lucky number

our house is gray, with black shutters and white trim ... and now a red door!
it was our first house project, and although not a big one, we're pretty excited about it.
 we love our 13.

my favorite part is the new red reflection in the glass. oh the possibilities.

we think our red door is pretty lovable. wouldn't you agree?

organize, schmorganize

today, i spent the day organizing, backing up, deleting from my massive photo archives.

do any of you still print your photos, on physical paper, and put them into an album of sorts?

i do. i still feel the need to have my favorites printed out and kept safe. but, they take up space and can become overwhelming. and now that everything is so digital, it's so easy (or, is it, really?) to share and store photos in virtual places.

do any of you use flickr? does that help?

for backing up, i use an external hard drive and do it manually so i know what's going on, but it's really not in any sort of organization besides by date ... so even though i HAVE all the photos in the world, it would never entice me to go back and find something in there. EW.

so i beg of you- please tell me!- what are your favorite ways to organize and store photos?

i hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving. don't forget to use the code LOVEYOUTURKEYS in my etsy shop - today is the last day!
