a-rooster-a-day

helps make packing feel better.
... we're closing on our house TOMORROW. these roosters (and more!) are making their way to etsy soon. they just take some detours, those wild roosters. i've been working in my mom's studio while we pack. it's so bright in there compared to my apartment cave. can't wait to see what a house-studio brings.

today's rose:: dunkin donuts on a rainy packing day
today's thorn:: my pinterest "pin it" button doesn't work! i think they're on it. their facebook page has other people who are just as lost as me without their pinning abilities. i do love the page's new look, though.

process update

the process continues, amongst boxes and packing. packing is daunting ... a painful but necessary truth, sad yet invigorating at the same time. kind of like fall.

love is hiding all over the place

-we got married a year ago! (a year and a few days ago...)
-it's easy to love the glamorous memories, but even the lame ones are certainly better together.
-excited to see which 9/18 traditions stick.
-i got a piece by robin luciano beaty!! from the very inspiring three graces gallery
-someone who HATES eggs learned how to MAKE me eggs
( image via )
-and last but not least ---we went to craigie on main. it was the best food experience.... ever. i'll just say that it involved a 6 course tasting "chef's whim" menu so each course was a total surprise and i was bouncing in my seat. we talked about it all the way home. each course was 100% pure, honest, simply gorgeous, un-fussed, no-joke perfectly prepared + paired, wicked creative ... and 500% delicious. words don't even do it justice. i should have taken pictures. but even then. good lord.

i'm finding all other foods, preparations, or ideals to be less worthy, which isn't working out.

*thank you all so much for the rooster love - stay tuned for more on here and etsy!

aloha, 1-year-of-marriage, nice to meet ya

one whole year ago today, we were flying away to maui for our honeymoon! visions of maui + kauai are still dancing like sugarplums in my head. my posting is a little backwards, our first anniversary was this past weekend (which was really fun and actually art-related! to share tomorrow.) for now, i just wanted to pay a little tribute to hawaii. i made a little pinterest board and painted a bunch of little roosters to continue to aloha spirit. which rooster is your favorite?

don't force it

beginning of cover for sketchbook project, my chosen theme is "along the line"
i'm working on perfecting the way i'd like to present + sell original works and prints, on my etsy shop. perfecting may be a silly thing. i'll let you know.

((did i mention we're moving, yet? YES. it's so exciting for us- our first house! it's coming right up in a couple weeks. it also means a (quick) shuffle from in-APT-studio-space to in-HOME-studio-space. awkward but perfect time to re-organize for a new slew of etsy shop pieces just in time for the holidays. and the best way to gain new light for photography. i'll still be working from home, which means, lucky you, you'll STILL be inundated with the randomness of inspiration i collect from mixing all parts of my day with all other parts of my day. *which may now include "does this work" posts about my attempt to make our house cool. or not.))

in the meantime, here's the start of my sketchbook project cover, and a bunch of little quickies. they were either one-off feelings jotted down on paper (in visuals versus words), or little pre-started pieces that i re-worked, quickly. letting something be if its annoying you, then going back to it and making it something you like-- that's another theory i'm testing out. oh, the theories. here's a good one, though, by somebody wiser than me:

"The most successful pieces are often executed in a kind of fog. The forms are usually simple and unique, and to me, evocative of someone, something, or someplace. The designs are a natural extension of this simplicity and personality. Too much thought inhibits the expression and causes the piece to look forced." -- paul schwieder

progress:: falling into place

this first one is either unfinished or done. it's a 50/50 chance. letting her sit for longer. second and third are "done". when can a painting ever just be "done"? hmm....
the brain corals (coxcomb celosia)!! they were there again. at the farmer's market. so this time they came home with me (as did some basil and a mummy-bouquet, i couldn't resist that dahlia.) i know you feel better now, seeing that come full circle.
18 lobsters, 8 people ... it's not sick. it's awesome. i wouldn't want to end summer any other way. orlosk-gregoire-1/2moher lobsterfest 2K11. except next time we need scott. and ryan. (and i'm pretty grateful that my family and my in-law family can all be in the same room with each other and enjoy it. they all must love us that much.)

simple summer

food we eat, places we go, space we allow ourselves, the way we dress, what we need ... are all so much simpler answers in the summertime. i pledge to take some of those simpler ideals with me for the fall and winter (and spring, though i'd like to reject that as a season), while letting go of whatever doesn't fit. after all, fall is awesome, too. who's with me?
(and luckily, the ocean is awesome in all seasons.)
