recently, all mashed up

i started to pair these images with a list of the load of things going on right now, but i decided it was boring for you. instead, i'll just point out that the third one down is jay's band recording at indiefair (which i can't wait to show you! they're still editing...), and that there's some new work being started (by me). the art below is sort a collection of things i started before christmas and just finished, and some things i started earlier this week with the burst of new thoughts i get when i decide to stop dwelling on how to fix a pinched nerve and start feeling my normal life again. you can see the separation between finished, and just started. or maybe you can't- and that's good too! more to come with finished pieces soon. i also started word-vomiting lists back and forth with this one about a possible project together (but if i say too much it'll never happen, so that's all.)

and i must note- the new iron and wine is amazing. the album art is also pretty cool, i love their site right now. listen!

and also, my recent blog obsession is this girl. i especially like this post about staying inspired. it's exactly right, and exactly what we always say about it sort of being feast or famine, and it works for any type of creative mind. she focuses on blogging and how to keep up, stay excited, and let it go when you're not.

summer up

hello! i am back from "the dreaded lurgy" as my british grammy calls it. i haven't had the flu since i was a kid, and i think it's best that way. please.

so, sometimes it just feels like winter has nothing to give. coziness and hot chocolate. yeah yeah. i'll get back to that later. today i was driving over to deliver some cheese + chocolate to my sister at the vet hospital where she works (it's her birthday!) (that's her on the left in the last picture). and i drove by the beach. and i almost cried when i saw it. you can make fun of me, it's ok. but there's just something about the sea (or, insert other nature fascination here_______), in any form, that inspires. so much so, that all i can do to express it, is create. somehow when i'm near the sea, my mind can be in a rare state of crazy thoughtful and happily thoughtless at the same time.

the seasons are a constant inspiration, they help us change. they're beautiful, even in the winter. we just have to look out there, even if it's freezing and it doesn't even snow enough to matter and you can't go snowshoeing and your lawn is pure ice. it can be hard when we're indoors all the time because one season in particular is really stubborn. we get so used to keeping warm, shutting the door, cooking, worrying about the insides of our houses (or maybe this is all just me... ) but obviously it's a proven fact that if you can even look out the window, take a quick walk, drive, or look at pictures of nature ... it helps. nature, in any form, always inspires. it's just impossible harder to see in the dead of winter. have you had any outdoor experiences lately? i need to feed on your stories!

incidentally, "the chew" today (my favorite show to watch during lunch now) was having an episode on putting a little summer in your winter. how did they know i needed it? so, i made us a montage of outdoors and freshness. i also made a pinterest board, stay juicy.

but first, enjoy this new song:

sketchbook project- complete!

here are some spreads from my sketchbook project 2012. it needs to be postmarked by january 31st and then will go on a "tour", and i've also paid to have it digitized, but for now here are some shots of it.

it started with a theme "along the line", and evolved into... this stuff.

usually, i work from photographs to help me remember the feeling and guide my lines. but in here, i decided to do everything from my head, doing whatever comes out with(out) judgement. which was a lot of line, color and some child-like doodles. i tried some new techniques + mediums and also used it as a place to put things- new inklings of ideas, quotes, or loose papers. no rules. here was the cover. here were some spreads. and here are some more before i package + mail it off (full version to come):

there are some that really push me in another direction (like these last ones) and some that i just don't know where they came from (like the first one) but maybe i will when i look back. what do you think?
